Next week, an entirely female crew will launch into space. This team of six includes CBS anchor Gayle King and singer Katy Perry.
They will be the most recent individuals to journey into space, thanks to Blue Origin, a space tech firm established by Jeff Bezos.
In the year 2000, Bezos initiated Blue Origin. Ever since commencing manned missions in 2021, both famous personalities and various paying clients have had the opportunity to experience journeys into outer space.
The planned launch is set for Monday, April 14, in West Texas. This event marks the company’s 11th crewed mission and its 31st flight altogether.
The launch will mark a historical moment as well because it will be the first crewed mission consisting entirely of women since 1963 when the Soviet Union’s Valentina Tereshkova embarked on a solo space journey.
A team of six females is involved in a commercial space journey called NS-31. The complete voyage is anticipated to take around 11 minutes.
They will travel inside the New Shepard, consisting of both a rocket and a passenger capsule. This vehicle operates autonomously with no pilots onboard, enabling the team to experience the journey purely as travelers. Designed for full reusability, the New Shepard’s capsule descends back to earth using three parachutes.
Meanwhile, the rocket is powered by a BE-3PM engine, which propels it to suborbit before slowing down the booster to six miles per hour for a controlled landing.
These are the women set for the space journey: Aisha Bowe, a previous NASA rocket scientist; Amanda Nguyen, a civil rights advocate and researcher specializing in bioastronautics; Gayle King, a renowned journalist and TV host at CBS Mornings; Katy Perry, a prominent pop singer; Kerianne Flynn, a movie producer; and Lauren Sánchez, an award-winning journalist known for her Emmy win and engagement with Bezos.

According to an interview for the Elle magazine cover, the women on board will get their makeup and hair styled for this once-in-a-lifetime chance.
They will make up one of the most diverse groups of women ever to venture into space. Given the current stats on women in space exploration, their presence is badly required.
Women only make up 11 percent of those who have ventured into space. And, of course, the figures are even lower when it comes to women of color.
Only two Latinas, five African American women, and four of Asian descent have ventured into space as NASA astronauts. Despite their achievements, they faced significant gender bias throughout their journeys.
The groundbreaking lift-off will occur at Launch Site One, similar to all previous Blue Origin launches. This location is situated within a privately owned ranch in the remote area of West Texas. Blue Origin will offer a live broadcast of this event.
