Windows 11 Simplifies Emoji Typing Like Never Before!

Updated April 9, 2025: On yesterday's Patch Tuesday, which fell in April, update KB5055523 , Microsoft introduced the "Emoji and More" panel, which can now be accessed through an icon in the system tray of the taskbar. Earlier, this feature was available in the optional KB5053656 update Starting from March, this update was also accessible in the previously mentioned preview release. The simplest method to install KB5055523 is through Windows Update.

Story originally published on December 10, 2024: Microsoft seems to think Windows 11 users are clamoring for easier ways to insert emojis, as if we’re so constantly in need of quick access to emojis on a day-to-day basis that we need super shortcuts for it.

If this applies to you, Microsoft wants you to be aware that they are attentive to your concerns and genuinely care. According to the newest Windows 11 Insider preview, Build 22635.4580 ), Microsoft has included an emoji panel directly on the taskbar, allowing quick access to emojis regardless of whatever activity you're engaged in.

Even though there is already a keyboard shortcut for opening the emoji panel—just press Windows key + Period or Windows key + Semicolon — it’s clear that not everyone is aware of it. After all, who can really remember the hundreds of keypress combinations that exist?

If you prefer not having the emoji panel in your taskbar, you can disable it through the settings by going to Settings > Customization > Taskbar , next to "System tray icons," search for "Emojis and more." Adjust the drop-down menu accordingly. Never to disable it.

If you're not part of the Windows 11 Insider program, this feature will be available to you before long. Look out for update KB5046733 via Windows Update; however, the exact release date remains uncertain at this point.
