Instagram is currently experimenting with methods to allow users to keep their Reels private using secret codes along with a helpful clue designed to assist users in accessing these posts.
Even though it isn’t currently being enforced as of now, TikTok’s The ban in the U.S. has prompted Meta to migrate several highly requested features and advantages from the app to Instagram Reels.
It quickly started trying to attract TikTok content creators with massive Reels bonuses , and even added a pause button to videos soon after.
Now, Instagram is testing a feature that lets you control who can view your videos by locking them with a secret code.
The updated locked Reels feature allows you to provide users with a clue.
The feature was spotted by TechCrunch , who discovered Instagram's Design account through one of their recent posts.
Upon initially encountering the video on the Design page, you're asked to hit a button to input a hidden code. After tapping it, the application activates your keyboard so you can attempt to uncover the video.
To simplify things somewhat, Instagram allows you to add a clue to assist users in cracking the secret code. After entering the correct code, you will gain access to watch the video.
Here, Design’s fixed video seems to announce that they’re rolling out a profile on Meta’s rival platform,Threads.

This isn't the first instance where Instagram introduced a feature necessitating users to unlock content somehow. Earlier in 2024, they Added a revealing sticker to Stories. That necessitates viewers sending a direct message to unlock the time-restricted content.
Instagram is continuing to strengthen its platform with enhancements to search functionalities Similarly, the ongoing threat of TikTok’s ban in the United States still hangs over the heads of content creators.
On April 4, 2025, President Donald Trump signed a second 75 day extension for the bill — which means TikTok has until June 18, 2025, to separate from its parent company or face a ban in the United States.
