The Broad commenced excavation for an extension project on Wednesday.
Edythe Broad stated that the museum’s expansion "shows our conviction about the significance of art as a resource for all people."
She mentioned, 'The new construction doesn’t just create extra room; it enhances the current setup by offering an array of fresh experiences for those who delve into various artistic expressions.'
Joanne Heyler, who leads The Broad, outlined the upcoming alterations at the museum.
There will be approximately 70% additional gallery space available for visitors to explore, nearly twice as many collected artworks on display, and an ongoing series of temporary special exhibits," she stated. "Guests can also take advantage of new rooftop terraces on the higher floors where they can pause to breathe some fresh air during what may become a slightly extended stay at the museum. The expanded area will provide greater capacity for comprehensive solo artist showcases within our exhibition halls.

The expansion initiative is anticipated to wrap up by 2028, conveniently aligning with the Olympic Games.
