Taylor Guitars has recently introduced their Action Control Neck – a newly patented neck joint design that enables the acoustic guitar ’ string height can be finely adjusted within seconds, without needing to remove the neck or the strings.
The latest feature made its debut with Taylor’s Gold Label Collection earlier this year and further showcases the brand’s expertise in introducing innovative neck designs, building upon previous advancements like their notable neck innovations. “NT” neck , first launched way back in 1999.
"Featuring this innovative neck design, we’re offering the most meticulously crafted and effortlessly adjustable guitar we have ever produced," states Bob Taylor, CEO and chief luthier of Taylor Guitars. Andy Powers the creator responsible for the design of the necklace.

How does the Action Control Neck vary from a typical guitar neck? This innovative design includes a lengthy tenon that penetrates further into the body's neck block—without using shims—which allows musicians to tweak their string height effortlessly using a quarter-inch nut driver via the soundhole.
According to Taylor Guitars, this leads to "enhanced bass response and a richer, warmer, more open tonality in the Gold Label guitars."
The company further emphasizes that this "breakthrough" will particularly benefit touring musicians as their instruments traverse various climates, settings, and circumstances.
For studio musicians specifically, this feature facilitates an easy switch between different playing techniques—such as fingerstyle and slide—without requiring them to have multiple guitars or make setups each time. For casual players, it offers seamless modifications over periods of use, compensating for variations caused by environmental factors or seasons that affect the neck’s angle geometry.
The Action Control Neck is presently available exclusively. Taylor’s Gold Label Collection — which the brand launched this January to coincide with NAMM — featuring a '30s and '40s inspired Super Auditorium design that expands upon the brand’s Grand Auditorium silhouette.
Judging from this recent PR blast, however, we wonder how long it will be before the design trickles down to other Taylor releases…
