Seton Medical Center Launches Cutting-Edge Robotic Surgery Technology

Thanks to recent advancements in medical technology, patients at Seton Medical Center - Harkey Heights can now be discharged earlier than previously possible.

The da Vinci Xi Surgical System (Xi) mimics the movements of human hands to conduct minimally invasive operations, providing patients with the chance for earlier discharge, quicker recuperation, and reduced reliance on pain medication post-surgery.

“I prefer the Xi while applying sutures because of the flexibility and likeness to the human hand,” said Dr. Justin Tawfik, who performed the first Xi System surgery at Seton Harker Heights earlier this week.

Seton Medical Center states that patients may be discharged within 24 hours or even on the same day, dramatically reducing their recovery period. Similarly, Xi enables individuals to resume regular activities much sooner.

The hospital stated that Xi was designed for numerous minimally invasive procedures within the fields of gynecology, urology, and general surgery.

Xi operates through the use of wristed tools, 3D-high definition imagery, natural movements, and a user-friendly structure.

Similar to every da Vinci Surgical System, a surgeon maintains full control over the robotic-assisted system at all times. The device converts their hand motions into finer, more accurate actions performed by miniature tools within the patient’s body.

The Xi System offers an immersive 3D-HD visualization that enables surgeons to see with high magnification, essentially bringing their sight and skills directly inside the patient.

We are thrilled to introduce new cutting-edge medical technologies that will provide our patients with safer and more effective choices for addressing their surgical requirements," says Mandy Shaiffer, Chief Nursing Officer at Seton Harker Heights, "enhancing the quality of care within our local community.
