The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom is currently shut down for significant renovations. This project involves replacing the ride's tracks along with various other enhancements.
Construction of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

On Wednesday morning, we observed crew members accessing the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad line. Among them was an individual transporting water bottles for their colleagues.

The vibrant green and clear tarps at the entrance of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad structure have been swapped out for bigger tan-colored tarps.

They obstruct much of the view into this part of the line.

A number of team members were operating in the town of Tumbleweed. Some were positioned on scaffolding near the lift hill at the rear.

The lift hill got a fresh song last month Steel supports were incorporated into the sides and are expected to accommodate decorative features such as faux wood panels, which would camouflage the contemporary roller coaster tracks.

Scaffolding surrounds a wagon amidst the tumbleweeds.

The majority of the scaffold had been taken down from the knotted tree beside the pathway, where possums used to hang The tree is still lacking several branches, hence the job isn’t complete yet.

The crew members were busy at work on a neighboring hill, with a goat keeping guard from a crest above them.

The crane was transporting what looked like sandbags or similar gear across the construction area.

Multiple building supplies are placed beside a length of railway, among them buckets and a cooler.

Track was previously installed Along this section of the attraction, which concludes after passing beneath a bridge, some scaffolding had been taken down during the track setup. However, it has since returned, positioned above the track.

Higher up this slope, a white tarp shields part of the tracks. The gray concrete under the tracks remains unpainted, still differing from the rest of the rust-colored mountainside.

In the meantime, teams have been busy with work on the bridge spanning above the tracks. However, the railings are still not connected.

A section of broken concrete was taken out from the vicinity at the present terminus of the track. Crew members have dismantled stone structures here as part of their work to rebuild it. The installation of new stonework remains unfinished, and a protective mesh net now stands where the upcoming track will be constructed.

This bend along the Rivers of America is another location where sections of track were taken out, and teams have been putting down new concrete.

A section of gray concrete can be seen surrounding a robust support beneath the scaffolding.

Above the cave, there is additional netting covering an opening in the rocky structure.

We did not spot any crew members on this side of the mountain, which has already gotten new tracks. Components at the dock have been covered in plastic for several months now.

The leftover items in the mine structure are still marked; one has a red tag, and two have green tags. Scaffolding has been reinstated in this building following its removal for track setup.

This curve of the track through rockwork is surrounded by safety cones.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is going to remain closed until 2026 for approximately one year. It will reopen with "a touch of fresh enchantment," though Disney has not provided further details yet.
