If visiting the Michigan Science Center (Mi-Sci) has been on your wish list, now is your opportunity.
MiSci and Axalta Coating Systems in Mount Clemens have joined forces to present Community Free Day on Saturday, taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The special programming will highlight transportation-themed entertainment with Axalta showcasing their 2025 Global Automotive Color of the Year, "Evergreen Sprint."
We're excited to collaborate with Axalta to introduce 'Evergreen Sprint' as their 2025 Color of the Year," stated Christian Greer, president and CEO of Mi-Sci, in a press statement. "Colors go beyond mere beauty; they serve as an incredibly potent instrument for scientific exploration that helps unravel cosmic secrets and molds our interaction with the environment. 'Evergreen Sprint' captures both the excitement of rapid motion and cutting-edge technology while highlighting how advancements in color science enhance daily life, affect perspectives, and fuel imagination.
The fresh hue, a luxurious and intense forest green, also honors the iconic British racing green, a color that epitomizes velocity and performance much like those seen in top-tier race cars.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Detroit Grand Prix and the Kiefer Foundation, which will additionally offer educational experiences for attendees centered around motorsports and safety.
“Axalta has proudly supported Mi-Sci over multiple years via our Axalta Bright Futures initiative,” stated Dan Naugle, Vice President of Mobility Americas at Axalta and member of the Mi-Sci Board of Directors. “Our dedication lies in positively influencing the areas where our team members reside and operate. Events such as these open doors for us to connect with and assist our local community while also showcasing Axalta’s commitment to innovation, enhanced living standards, and environmental sustainability.”
People attending Saturday's event will discover an array of engaging STEAM activities. Attendees can explore Mi-Sci’s refreshed Kids Town exhibition designed for children up to age five, observe lively scientific demonstrations, and let their imaginations soar as they construct distinctive vehicles using transportation-inspired Blue Blocks, Nudel Kart, and Dinosaur Bone Builders from Imagination Playground.

Constructed with soft, resilient foam, the Blue Blocks enable even the tiniest aspiring scientists to construct and engineer their designs securely. Made from lightwood, the Nudel Kart disassembles into separate, swappable components—allowing creativity to guide the assembly of cars or innovative buildings. With Dinosaur Bone Builders, children can assemble ferocious meat-eaters, docile plant-eaters, or invent completely novel creatures born from their imaginations.
Similar to numerous occasions, attendees will get the chance to explore the facility’s interactive displays, ongoing presentations, a Smithsonian Spark!Lab, an area dedicated to science technology engineering and mathematics (STEM), along with additional attractions. Upstairs, you can view the special exhibition called "Tyrannosaurs: Meet the Family." Separate tickets for the 4D Engineering Theater, showcasing both three-dimensional movies and other experiences, may be bought from the ticket counter.
Tickets for the Community Free Day are complimentary but require prior reservation. For additional details or to book your spot, please visit. mi-sci.org The Michigan Science Center is located at 5020 John R Street in Detroit.
