Honeywell Unveils AI-Powered Solutions for Advancing Green Hydrogen Production

Honeywell has unveiled Protonium, a suite of innovations leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). These advancements aim to boost the efficiency and expandability of producing green hydrogen. This technology targets typical hurdles faced in hydrogen generation including steep expenses, power usage optimization, and process bottlenecks.

The initial rollout of Protonium will occur at Aternium's proposed Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (MACH2). As a U.S.-based hydrogen manufacturer, Aternium has been granted an award from the U.S. Department of Energy aimed at backing regional hydrogen hubs. The firm stated that their choice to adopt Protonium stemmed from the technology’s capability to satisfy both performance and safety requirements.

The choice of the Honeywell Protonium collection for our upcoming Mid-Atlantic locations represents a strategic move aimed at maintaining peak operational efficiency and adhering to stringent safety protocols," stated Andrew Cottone, CEO and founder of Aternium. "Leveraging Honeywell’s established proficiency and cutting-edge technologies will significantly aid us as we strive to generate clean hydrogen, uphold unparalleled safety measures, and enhance benefits for both local populations and stakeholders.

Protonium encompasses three primary components: a Concept Design Optimizer designed to minimize the Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH), a Hydrogen Electrolyzer Control System for monitoring and evaluating electrolyzer efficiency, and a Hydrogen Unified Control and Optimizer that oversees energy consumption and facility operations through methods like digital replicas and anticipatory analysis techniques.

Representatives from Honeywell indicated that this technology is an integral component of their larger initiative aimed at enhancing the economic feasibility of green hydrogen and facilitating the transition towards more sustainable energy options.
