A Solution's Coming: We've Found a Fix for the Major LG G5 Issue

Great news for those who didn’t catch our guidance and purchased one. LG G5 as soon as it hit shops: a fix is on the way for the major issue we uncovered in our review.

For those who didn't catch it, the problem particularly affects streamed Dolby Vision content, appearing extremely grainy, splotchy, and exhibiting posterization in dark scenes.

It makes certain scenes nearly impossible to watch (like the beginning). Alien: Romulus For instance, it stands out and becomes quite noticeable and distracting in much of the content.

It deserves praise because once we alerted them to the problem, LG promptly began investigating and developing a solution.

The mentioned fix will be included in the upcoming software update, expected to be released for public use "by the end of this month," as LG informs us.

We were previously given an early release of this update (bringing the TV software up to version 33.10.75), and after conducting preliminary tests, it appears to resolve the issue effectively.

The scenes we recognized as notably troublesome Alien: Romulus , Interstellar and No Time to Die All of them are now rid of the unsightly splotches we discovered during our LG G5 review.

Given that this single issue prevented theLG G5from receiving a perfect five-star rating, you may wonder why we didn’t update our score since it seems to have been resolved.

The response has dual aspects. Firstly, additional time is required for comprehensive retesting of the television to ensure that the update hasn’t caused new problems in different areas.

Secondly, we aim to hold off until the software update is publicly released, just in case the finalized code varies from the preliminary version we've received.

Additionally, we've run into a new problem where grey horizontal stripes are showing up across the content displayed through the native Apple TV application.

This appears to be related to a separate update automatically applied specifically to that app today, so we're less concerned about it than the previous problem.

Moreover, this appears to be positive news for both current LG G5 owners and those considering purchasing one. We are eager to thoroughly test the updated software upon release and revise our review accordingly.
