Ukraine Turns to AI-Driven Drones to Thwart Russian Advantage

The Ukrainian military is incorporating advanced technologies like fiber-optic-equipped drones and artificial intelligence-powered combat units to outmaneuver their adversaries, according to the Ukrainian news outlet Unian. Their strategy targets reducing the Russian edge to negligible levels within a maximum of three months.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are implementing cutting-edge technology to enhance their performance in combat situations. According to Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi, who leads the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the military utilizes drones fitted with 12-mile-long fiber optic cables, providing them with extended reach and improved efficiency.

Perhaps in a month, two, or three, we will be able to significantly increase the number of fiber-optic drones, which will practically deprive the enemy of the advantage it currently has — Syrskyi believes. He adds that increasing the number of remotely controlled ground drones is also important.

Let's clarify that the fiber-optic drones mentioned by Syrskyi differ from conventional ones in that their control is latency-free. Furthermore, there are no delays in image transmission — pilots can see in real-time where they are located and can thus more effectively strike enemy vehicles.

The Ukrainian army is not only introducing new technologies but is also effectively responding to enemy actions. In the event of the enemy using precision aerial bombs, the Ukrainian Armed Forces deploy their own guided bombs, such as the GBU, enabling precise attacks.

The impact of Ukraine's initiatives

Owing to contemporary technology, the Ukrainian Armed Forces succeeded in neutralizing the Russian T-22M3 bomber and compelled the adversary to retreat their air force up to 185 miles away from the frontline. Such operations have likewise led to a decrease in the expenditure of artillery munitions by the Russians.
