Spotify Premium Stays Ad-Free: Debunking the Rumors

Several subscription services are available nowadays, ranging from video streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+, to music streaming services such as Spotify, Amazon Music, and Apple Music.

A lot offer several levels of service as well, typically providing either a complimentary or lower-cost monthly plan for individuals who do not mind occasional advertisements disrupting their viewing or listening sessions. Meanwhile, the pricier options generally come without ads.

Spotify One example of this is the service where the free version comes with limited features and includes advertisements. In contrast, Spotify Premium provides full access to all features and is intended to offer an advertisement-free experience. However, over the past few months, this has not always been the reality due to a bug that caused some Spotify Premium users to encounter ads they shouldn’t have heard.

This resulted in several rumors indicating that Spotify Premium could also start incorporating ads, even with its high cost and "Premium" designation. However, these speculations were laid to rest when Spotify addressed them on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

In the post Spotify stated, "A rumor is spreading claiming that Spotify intends to introduce advertisements during premium music streaming. This rumor is unfounded. Advertisements will not be included in premium music streaming now or in the future."

Certainly, the music streaming service was cautious about avoiding the word "ever" in their statement. However, as things stand currently, it appears that Spotify Premium will continue to be devoid of advertisements.

What does one receive with Spotify Premium?

With the Spotify Premium subscription, you get ad-free playback along with the ability to download tracks for offline enjoyment and arrange them as per your preference. Additionally, this plan lets you create a custom listening queue. In contrast, choosing the free version restricts you to shuffled playback which limits how much control you have over your listening experience. Furthermore, downloading songs isn’t possible without an active internet connection.

The Spotify Premium plan is priced at £11.99 per month for individuals. However, there’s also a Spotify Premium Student plan available for just £5.99 each month. Additionally, the Duo plan comes with a price tag of £16.99 monthly, whereas a Family plan catering to as many as six members is offered at £19.99 per month.
