A cinema enthusiast from Kent thinks that a novel type of film made specifically for smartphones might soon become as significant as conventional Hollywood blockbusters.
Vertical dramas are approximately 90-minute movies divided into episodes lasting around one minute each. According to Jen Cooper from Tunbridge Wells, this format works well for individuals who have difficulty focusing for extended durations.
Jen has launched Vertical Drama Love, a platform aimed at sharing updates and critiques on mobile short films, which she believes represents the cutting edge of contemporary narrative techniques.
With the most viewed episodes attracting anywhere from 200 to 350 million viewers globally, Jen thinks these shows will soon measure up to the industry’s leading figures.
She mentioned that numerous short film applications are continually emerging and believes they will coexist with conventional movies. Many performers appreciate this because it offers them substantial employment opportunities thanks to the frequent filming of episode series.
Now you have individuals from Hollywood joining in to create these, which also leads to an improvement in quality.
Jen mentioned that due to the brevity of each episode, an entire season can be filmed within approximately one week.
In Hollywood, getting one movie a year can be considered fortunate, as vertical dramas typically require just seven to ten days of filming," she stated. "You end up with around 20 to 30 productions to keep an eye on annually.

Jen mentioned that the format came from China and noted that it has been "rapidly expanding" and "exploded in popularity in the UK this year."
