Several branches of the California Department of Motor Vehicles have seen extensive queues as citizens hurry to obtain their REAL IDs ahead of the deadline. According to SFGATE, the DMV office in San Francisco witnessed a line stretching outside the building during the first hour after opening on Monday.

Fabian Venegas, who was waiting in line, spoke to the outlet saying, "We were aware this was going to happen. I expected there would be a big crowd."

"The DMV has observed a rise in customers opting for a REAL ID upgrade throughout the Bay Area, notably at their branches in San Jose, Santa Clara, Oakland, San Francisco, and Daly City," stated Katarina Snow, who serves as a DMV information officer.

Starting from April 14 through June 27, the California DMV locations in Folsom and Carmichael will begin their day one hour earlier at 7 a.m. These offices will be accessible during this additional time slot—7 to 8 a.m.—on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays to manage the surge in foot traffic.

The extra hour is reserved for REAL ID appointments only.

Once you secure your DMV appointment, make sure to verify all required documentation. This includes evidence of your U.S. citizenship along with proof of California residency.
